VISA: Transaction Receipt Changes
Visa has announced a series of changes to its rules and requirements regarding the provision of transaction receipts. These are aimed at streamlining requirements to bring them up to date with market needs and best practice.
With immediate effect:
- For transactions at unattended terminals (UCATs) - the threshold for when the terminal must be capable of providing a transaction receipt, upon cardholder request, will be raised to USD 25 (or the local currency equivalent) globally. This does not affect Automated Fuel Dispensers (AFDs).
- For face-to-face charity transactions using contactless-only terminals, a transaction receipt will not be required, regardless of the transaction amount. The merchant may choose to provide an electronic or paper transaction receipt.
- For all other non-UCAT merchants using contactless-only terminals, the merchant has the option of providing only electronic receipts when a transaction receipt is requested by the cardholder.
- For transactions at AFDs and terminals using quick-chip technology, a transaction receipt must be available upon cardholder request.
For all of the above transaction scenarios, please consult with your terminal provider to ensure you are benefiting from these streamlined requirements where possible.
